Secretary Message

 To the Esteemed Members of the Legal Fraternity of Pakistan,

 Assalamu Alaikum,

 It is both a profound honour and an earnest responsibility to address the distinguished members of our nation’s legal fraternity. As the elected Secretary of the Lahore High Court Bar Association — a venerable institution and one of the oldest and most eminent Bars in South Asia — I extend my deepest appreciation for your unwavering fidelity to the rule of law, constitutionalism, and the democratic ethos of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

 In these pivotal times, our mandate as officers of the court, guardians of civil liberties, and defenders of the Constitution assumes paramount importance. The enduring strength of a democratic polity lies not solely in the integrity of its institutions, but in the vigilance, moral compass, and intellectual rigour of its legal minds.

 Let us, therefore, reaffirm our oath and rededicate ourselves to the legal canons that bind us — to ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied, that due process is upheld, and that no ultra vires act, political expediency, or institutional overreach erodes the sanctity of fundamental rights.

 I earnestly call upon members of the Bar and Bench alike, from Senior Advocates and Silks to young practitioners and pupils-in-law, to rise above parochial interests, bar politics, and regional or ideological fault lines. Let us strive to elevate the standards of advocacy, promote professional courtesy, and champion judicial and procedural reforms that ensure access to justice remains an inalienable right, not a privilege.

The Lahore High Court Bar Association remains steadfast in its commitment to:

 Enhancing continuing legal education and capacity-building initiatives;

 Advancing the digital transformation of court systems and e-filing protocols;

 Safeguarding the privileges, immunities, and dignity of the legal profession.

 We shall continue to encourage scholarly discourse, support comparative legal research, and amplify the voices of both seasoned jurists and aspiring advocates, fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking legal community.

 Let us remember: “Fiat justitia ruat caelum” — Let justice be done though the heavens fall. United in purpose and principle, we can forge a legal fraternity that not only safeguards justice but serves as a lighthouse of reform and resilience for our beloved homeland.

With profound respect and unwavering solidarity,

Farukh Ilyas Cheema

Secretary
